Can somebody explain it? Is it the to-date gain/loss of all your positions, relative to when you bought it?

    Thanks

Unrealized P/L is your profit / loss of your current open positions. Once you close these positions, they become "realized", meaning they become yours.

    A real life example:
You bought a stock, say apple (aapl) back when it was priced at $100. The stock was selling on the market on Friday at 184.70. Even though you did not sell your stock, the unrealized gain is 84.70. It will not become a realized gain until you close the position, ie sell your stock.

    Unrealized gain

Unrealized gain is a profit that has not yet occurred (the asset has been purchased, not sold). For example, the purchase of a stock that has increased in value, until that stock is sold this is an unrealized gain. This is also known as a paper gain.

    Unrealized loss
